Why I HATE wireless carriers, phones, et al

I finally switched wireless carriers this year, 11 years with Tmobile and I was sick of them...

I got Tmobile in 2001, actually it was powertel then, but they changed names quickly. I was mostly satisfied with the service, except where it didnt work. Back then it wasnt uncommon for carriers not to have service in places like London, KY or in Lawrenceburg, KY but that has changed, in 2004 I noticed I had signal in London, and when I was shopping for houses I had signal in Lawrenceburg, yee haw. Then it was the coming of the smartphone, in 2005 I got a Tmobile HTC Dash, the phone was awesome, it had windows and a full keyboard, I was High Falutin. LAwrenceburg only had GPRS data, Frankfort in some places had Edge.. okay, no biggie, there is Wifi at home and where I was working. Then I got an android phone, a Motorola Cliq, I was upsold on it at the tmobile store, but Motorola phones are generally pretty good. So 3 months later when it started randomly rebooting I got concerned, Called tmobile, they replaced the phone, 3 months later same issue... called tmobile, they got motorola involved, after 6 months of dealing with tmobile trying to get a working phone the thing would reboot continuously until I would pull the battery and let it cool down, then I could get it working to send roughly 3 texts before it would reboot. it was a known issue of overheating. So I decided to change phones and got the HTC Mytouch 4g. It was a top of the line phone, had every feature I needed. even had 3g where I was working. This phone lasted 6 months before it somehow corrupted its OS and hung in a continual reboot. Wonderful, so I call tmobile and get a replacement. Its working again. But android was annoying me to death. I had to reboot it 3 or 4 times a day or it would get so slow it was unusable. even fresh out of the box it would do this. No one has an answer on that. Plus the android random restarts at least once a week, inevitably while I need the phone.

During all this time I got a used original iPhone right when the 3g iPhone came out. Hacked it, got it on Tmobile and all was well, it was used on my spare line. Thing is, the phone never had 1 issue, it always just worked. That fact alone tempered my judgement, could a almost-smart phone actually fill my needs better than tempermental android. If there is one piece of technology I need to always work its my phone. My Cell phone is my lifeline.

So I need an iPhone, great, waht phone doesnt Tmobile have? yeah, an iPhone. And since Tmobile doesnt work in my building at work... time to make a change, but to who?

it stars on January Second, my odyssey into madness.

I need to switch 4 lines over, ATT is out becuase not only are they high priced, but also ranked the worst in all other fields, I have more negative experience with ATT than any company ever.

Sprint, okay I had issues with an AirCard with Sprint, but it was mostly due to my former employer ACS. I start working with sprint on pricing and such to get 4 lines moved. Everything is set, until they run my credit and only approve 3 lines... wait what? I have 5 lines with tmobile, never paid late, my credit is very good, I just refinanced my house and bought a car, so its not as good as 6 months ago, but still very good. Sprint refuses to budge... no idea why.

Verizon, whatcha got? More expensive plans, no unlimited data, a comparable discount through my employer as they had with Sprint... Alright so I contact Verizon, get a call back in less than 10 minutes and we get the ball rolling. 2 iPhones and 2 flip phones for my parents. no problem, the rep runs my credit to check if a deposit is needed. Approved for 5 lines no deposit... what the hell sprint? So we get the flip phones and iPhones ordered, flip phones show up first, then the iphones (they were on backorder). The port ins took (and I kid you not) less than 5 mins per line.

My bill posted to the account this morning, it is within 2 dollars of what my tmobile bill was. So I have the phones I want, on the #1 provider, and the bill is basically the same. works for me.

2 Posts today, First about AT&T Landlines

So in November my Fiance started a job with a large company, it is working from home and required a land line. Fair enough I ordered just the basic AT&T land line. It comes out to 20 or so a month so meh, its going to be cheaper than my old Packet8 service I never really used and cancelled.

However the sheer ineptitude of their technicians is what shocks me. so on November 18 the installer comes out, tells me he has no direct burial cable so hes gonna run a temporary line. Okay sure, I knew it wasnt his job to bury it anyway. He goes about his install, which took way longer than it should have, connects the house wiring up. At this point im wondering why he didn't test the inside wiring since it was installed by a builder I couldnt verify the pairs were correct on the outside. regardless he tests it at the NID and then leaves, saying someone will be out in a maximum of 10 business days to run a burial cable and switch it over.

So I go inside and decide to check... nope no dial tone... wonderful... so I get out my cabling kit and begin to diagnose what pairs are what. 20 mins later I have all the pairings, swap them in the NID and its done and actually installed. wonderful, we are good to go so far.

the following Wednesday my Fiance texts me saying that ATT is outside doing something. Hmm, okay they were supposed to call or let me know so that it wouldn't disturb her working. Okay whatever, she says they are there for a few hours, then leave. I check when I get home, they ran and buried a cable, to the wrong pedestal... not knowing how the 28pair is run I just said whatever, they will have to straiten it out. A week goes by, the temp line is still there, not switched over, a month, and then on January 16th at 10 am I get a call, ATT tech is coming to switch the line over. He shows up, drives a tire through the easement leaving a nice little patch of mud. Then gets out of his truck 20 mins later (I literally put away 2 loads of laundry while he was still sitting in his truck) and I greet him, show him what the person who buried it did, he says no biggie and that he will switch the line over, and clean up the original installers broken brackets. 20 mins later I notice a box has blown into my yard so I went out to stick it in the trash can and he comes out from around the house saying its done, then he proceeds to call it. it works.

Fair enough ATT did their job, but 2 months just to do 15 mins worth of work... why? they are probably very lucky it didnt freeze and break the line... especially since we just had our first snow that stuck around for more than 6 hours.

This is why I don't like ATT they are slow, non careful, and 80% of the time rude.

Of all the times you needed to get it right, of all the years to put your absolute 100% best foot forward on consoles EA, you Fucked Up! I suppose I shouldnt be surprised, after all it is what you are good at.

Let me qualify here...

I am NOT a COD Fanboy, as a matter of fact I LOVE the Battlefield Series, Ive owned them all, except 2142, I think it just hit at a weird time that I wasnt gaming on PC at all.

I dont game on PC anymore, it hurts my back because I get all tense in an office chair. I could rig up something for the living room computer (its a last year high power machine hooked to my 65") but its not worth the effort when my 360 and PS3 are right there as well.

SO BF3 on 360, a different beast from PC, this is ONLY about the 360, because lets face it if you play COD the Majority is on 360. BF3 has made great improvements over the last console iteration BF:BC2... of note are the server browser and ease of playing with friends. It has the same flaws as public COD matches, but if you can get 12 friends going on one server you could occupy an entire team and use team chat. problem 3/4 solved. Still not as easy as COD, but when was the last time you could drive a tank in COD (Yes I know the Treyarch 3, and 5, which were... yuck) nevermind a helo or jet.

What is almost impossible to forgive though are the Dedicated servers. Okay listen EA, I know you are going for a profit here, I know you are maximixing that profit. BUT, what is the cost for leasing some extra servers (or BLADES) for say 2 to 4 weeks for launch?

Launch night was a DISASTER, I played 14 matches total. Do you know how many actually completed without the server(s) crashing or the Bandwidth pipe causing a DOS? 2... Two... let that sink in for a moment.

Sunk in yet? Ok Good, moving along... What are the implications for that? well when the server drops/dies/is unreachable guess what happens to the points you had... they are gone. By my best estimate I lost about 10000 points and unlocks/levels last night. One match, and the one I almost threw my controller, I began at the beginning of the match, it was a very hard fought fight, I had 3000 points and the enemy team had 11 tickets left when *boop* black screen, then "EA servers unavailable" I understand launch days can be screwy, thats fine, I fully expect the COD MW3 launch in 2 weeks to do the same(ish) stuff. But I doubt Ill lose my progression when the network fails. Thats a damn big one EA... and I mean DAMN BIG.

So Instead of being a level 3 when I next login on one of my 2 game nights a week I will still be level one with a whopping 2 matches played, and all that extra time is gone.

So, thats my rant. I may write up a review on this game once I have played more matches, but I will definitely compare the 2 Shooters that are Directly competing this holiday.

and BTW EA unless Activision really badly screws the pooch on launch, you lost, that market share of the console shooters you were teasing activision about, enjoy that Crow taste, im sure its tasty.

I've got some Dust in my eye

Ah From Dust, where did you come from?

I have never really tried/gotten into these God games that are out there. None really appealed, well, with the exception of Sim City. I used to play com city for hours, tough half the fun was cheating, building a huge city then triggering multiple disasters.

From Dust is a very cute game, yeah, I said cute. It blends some incredibly beautiful visuals with some interesting character, and throws in some really nice gameplay. It is not for everyone, I started playing this Tuesday night, played for maybe an hour, cleared a few maps. Then I played Wednesday night, ran 4 maps, a Tropical Volcano, a Desert (more on that one), a Daytime Fire Island?!?, and a night time desert? (more on that last one). I thought I had only played for an hour, turned out to be almost 4... oops.

So I am addicted to it while playing it, that's different, but not too new for me. The maps so far have produced interesting challenges, specifically the Desert and Night Desert maps. The Volcano was fun, no big challenge for me, the Fire Island one had no challenge at all for me.

The Desert map starts off with a little water and 3 springs sitting right in front of you, you clear off some brush and place your first village. The game then tells you that it is too dry and that you need water to spread vegetation, fair enough, so you move some of the water coming out of the springs and voila you have vegetation in the area. I should note that the vegetation isnt required but it is part of the challenge. Next I started clearing a path for my little guys to grab the repel water and next totem... then it happened, I hit another spring, crap its gonna flood my village, so I clear a channel for it to flow down, in clearing that channel i hit 5 more springs, this is a desert right? After a long while of clogging springs and channeling water I got the 100% vegetation, but it wasnt a desert any more, looked more like a group of islands.

The night desert map was a neat map in that the center of the map acted like a see saw or one of those single pole single throw switches that rocks back and fourth, the trick here, water sloshes in that little area, and there is a totem at one end. After acquiring the repel water power it was made easier, however there was some hilarity to be had right there.

So here I am talking about a god game. It definitely has a lot of fun and character to it, but I found it to be an instant purchase after playing the demo. So try the demo, if you dont like it, well then move on, but if you do, buy it.

Trenched!!!

So... Trenched from Double Fine came out yesterday on the Xbox Live Arcade.

Did I really only pay 15 for this one? yup

What makes me say that? Several factors

1. 8-10 hour Story/campaign
2. 4 Player Co-Op
3. Robust Loot System
4. Very cool graphics
5. Upgradable/customizable mechs

Wow, all this from a 15 dollar arcade game. This really sets the bar high.

I was fortunate enough to play a few hours of rounds with Finfan, Fin's son, Godkill, Tacoma, and a few others last night. The game is good, you really have to think about turret strategy, on top of what loadout you are taking compared to others and what role you will play. I will say that the loot/scrap is more scarce than I expected, but it adds to the challenge. And the humor, wow, very well done, who lights a cigar with a gunshot... this game.

A little background on mech games for me. Yes I loved Mechassault, and the sequel for the original xbox, fun, fun games. Then came Chromehounds on the 360, I must have put 250+ hours into that game, when they shut the servers down I was heartbroken, but the community had waned considerably. But the level of customization and depth of the online war was superb. I will never forget going into battle with a loadout of 3 double howitzer/cannons (dubbed the T-Dub, or as Major 10 0 calls it the "Tripple Double") getting into position, someone spotting my shots for me and unleashing absolute hell on an enemy base from what would be miles away, and the joy when my spotter would say "Dead on" my response.. "Get the hell out of there, FIRING FULL EFFECT" and unholy fire would rain on that base, 6 explosive or incindiary shells at a time, I can even remember some more interesting designs on those mechs, or Hounds as the game called it.

Chromehounds will be missed, this game fills that void, less customizably, less persisent but for 15 dollars, hell I would pay 60 for it, and if Double Fine comes out with some DLC for it (Chassis, Turrets, MISSIONS) I am first in virtual line!

Is an iPad a computer?

Hi everyone,

I am typing this out on my iPad somewhat ironically. Why you ask? Because until very recently I never understood what the hubbub was about surrounding iOS devices. I own an original iPhone I purchased from someone for 100 bucks and unlocked it for tmobile use. I used it for about a year But eventually realized that in comparison to android offerings and the lack of updates to iOS 4 I was Up a creek. So I set it aside and used it as an iPod (still do actually). I have an iMac at my house, but I boot camped it so it has a 450 gig windows partition and a 50 gig mac os partition.... Suffice it to say, well, I prefer windows over Mac os. I'm not die hard, I just have a preference.

So a situation presented itself recently where I could purchase a new iPad 2 for an incredibly low price, since I was really wanting a tablet, and at the time leaning toward android, I actually bought it. And I am so shocked. The Thing has not only replaced the netbook I keep sitting by the couch, but it makes it to my nightstand nightly. It's just so damned convenient. But does it do everything I can do on a computer? Nope, but it has filled a need.
I purchased a netbook a year Ago, barely used it. I purchased this 3 weeks ago and use it almost constantly. No I didnt get the 3G version, my android does free wireless tethering, without rooting.

So I look at the specs, it's a dual core 1 ghz processor with a dedicated graphics chip. Wait, huh? It's more powerful than that top of the line pc I put together in 2003 that sounds like a jet engine and is now relegated to running Linux? Yup... And it fits in my hands, is silent... Oh crap...and it plays games, very well. Yesterday I picked up dead space on it for a buck, WOW is all I can say. On top of that you have games like warp gate hd and angry birds, as well as plants vs zombies. And the screen is larger than a phone, I can browse the web in almost all it's glory, connect to my sling box at home, watch my Netflix and hulu plus. And the battery life? With my usage (A LOT) it hits about 75% by the end of the day, I haven't had it below 30, but that was 4 days of moderate use. I couldn't be more happy. So for now, the iPad has become my traveling computer, and gaming machine, and since I am not often home right now, I fills a very big need. So for the first time ever I am praising an apple product and I do feel it is worth it. Thanks apple!

Hi to anyone who reads this.

In the past years of my life I have been through some incredible experiences, lots of pain, and very rare moments of clarity. Until recently...

So, as many people know I am divorced, yes it was painful, yes it sucked, but I wasn't with the right person. During my divorce I met someone, fell in love, and thought I was done, we butted heads from the beginning but we both thought we could get through it. Two and a half years later she left me, I went very emo and thought I had lost the love of my life, looking back, wow, I was stupid. So the past year has been interesting, I tried casual dating, meh, I tried FWB, meh, so I started looking for something serious, nothing stuck, even on first dates I knew they wouldn't stick. Yet out of misguidedness (yeah that's not a word) I stuck with a few of them for a bit until I realized it just sucked, I was pushing myself into something I knew was going to fail. It was about that point in time I realized who I was. I cant force something like that on myself. So I gave up. I stopped looking, broke up with the girl I was with and said screw it, maybe one day I will feel something again. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that for about 6 months I had no feelings at all whatsoever, love, hate, nothing.

Something suddenly happened, and it happened so fast that I was not prepared, and I was shocked. I had spoken to someone in the past (a few months back) that we just kind of stopped talking, no real idea why, I certainly didn't lose interest. So on a Sunday I uploaded a random as hell picture post to Facebook, then it happened, a comment, a door, a window, do I take the opportunity? I sat on it, thought about it for a few hours (yeah like 12), then, on Valentines Day I sent a message. I asked why we stopped talking, and guess what, neither of us had actually lost interest. So we started talking, and talk we did.

This AMAZING woman had been hiding in plain sight right there on my Facebook news feed for months. Where are we today? I am so totally in love with someone I have known for a relatively short period of time, but thats the kicker, I feel like I have known her my entire life. This person (I really hope she is reading this) is so Gorgeous, Smart, Funny, and just an Unbelievable person that I cant believe she chose to be with me. In my life I can say I have loved people, but it has NEVER been like this. Yes there are a lot of similarities, but there are differences in there too, its a great mix, she is Perfect for me. If she left me tomorrow I would be heartbroken but at least I would have experienced true love. How do I say that so soon? I have absolutely no doubt in my mind! That in and of itself is new to me.

So here I am with feelings, IN LOVE, and so happy I can barely keep from screaming it at the top of my lungs. She is my Angel, a gift from above, mana from heaven, she has saved my heart. I put up such an impenetrable wall around my heart and she walked right through it and shattered it. I am not saying it will last forever, but I am hoping it does. I love her so much.

So to the casual reader, I dont apologize, if you read this you read it for a reason.

If that special Angel is reading this I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!

I hope this doesn't scare her off. It is, after all, how I feel.

A Gamer Lacking

For as long as I have been playing games (yes all the way back to Atari) I have loved the Flight Genre. More so the Sims than the Arcades, but they each have their benefits and their drawbacks. I remember buying Microsoft Flight Simulator back on DOS 5.0 and I sat there and flew that little Cessna for days and days. Then I found the Jane's series of fighter pilot sims, again I sat and played for days and days.

All this stems from my love of flying, I always wanted to be a pilot, still do, and when I have a more stable life I will get my license. My Gamertag/Nickname/Handle of "Shadow" came from playing Fighter Pilot games over LAN, and 14.4 modem, I was apparently my target's shadow, it stuck.

Fast forward to modern times and the modern generation of consoles. Since the 360 is my primary platform let me list the flight games I currently own for it.

H.A.W.X.
Over G Fighters
Ace Combat 6 (Bought the big kit with the Flight Stick on this one)

I have owned Blazing Angels, and I think, Blazing Angels 2

The reason I still own the games above is simply because they are Good, Over G is the closest to a modern sim, HAWX is a great very arcadey game, and Ace Combat sits somewhere in between the 2.

All of these titles are good, but where is my GREAT title? I see the new Ace Combat previews, and I see the next HAWX previews, but I wont hold my breath.

My biggest complaint with the current flight games, it has to be that no one plays these online...I would love to be up in the skies dogfighting again!

Glow Ball!

Don't know if anyone reads this but...

Its 1:14am and I just got home from my first time playing glow ball.

Its Golf at night with Glowsticks on the pins, in the cup, and in the ball.

Its hard as hell to even hit the ball strait but it is soooooo much fun

Special thanks to Bkingx and Jkeyes0 and some friends from work for making it a great evening!

AND I got to experience a new drink I hadn't tried, Captain and Coke, I don't know why I had never tried it before but its one of the best mixed drinks I have ever had.

Glowball gets a \nn/ from me, and so does captain and coke.

Today is Mothers day and I wanted to say to all you moms and grandmoms out there that includes moms of Humans and Pets, Happy Mothers Day, I appreciate you!

Hey anyone who actually reads this.

So whats new?

Well I have had a really good weekend. I got up late saturday, went to my parents farm and messed around and talked till about 4:30, then went home, changed and went to Thunder over Louisville, it was a blast. Had an awkward texting convo, no shock there right?

Today has been great, another awkward texting convo but no big deal and it actually ended with me being pleased, so I dont have to worry about those any more. I went and played 9 holes of golf after going to the grocery, I guess walmart was having a sale on stamps??? cause I bought 75 for the price of 50 by my math... golf was a blast, beer and golf, and didnt play too bad for my first time out this year, still have my slice and need to work on chipping still. But those 2 things always plague me.

I also ordered a few things, a netbook, GPS, and minicamcorder. All 3 on sale and all 3 things I had debated on getting for the past year. I got the netbook because I am sick of wandering around the house with this laptop, and I cant leave it near the bed when I sleep but a netbook would make it easy. The GPS because I am taking more roadtrips and going to be exploring parts unknown to me so it is kindof required but I thought itd be handy. and finally the mini camcorder. I had been thinking about starting a vlog, and this is a great opportunity for that. And I would like to document my adventures a little more as they happen. so expect a youtube channel soon. But I am going to try to avoid blathering on about Ashley.

The big downer of the day is this is the 2 month anniversary of the breakup. I guess its not that big of a downer, its just a measurement of time. I am in a different place anyway, so it didnt get me down.

Not much else to say, gotta do 1 load of laundry and take out the trash. right now rocky and bullwinkle is on the CW, its a stupid but funny movie.

Lunch Time

So, Its lunch time, and Ive been reading my old blog posts... very interesting.

Someone asked me today "Do you love Ashley and want to be with her forever"
first part, yes, without a doubt.
Second part is a little harder to answer. In 6 months if we were together I would answer that... but the best answer I cant answer that for now because we arent together.

Is it possible? yes. Is it improbable? I dont know, probably lol

But I am not going to dwell on the fact I think the mistakes that were made are fixable.

I am going to be patient and wait for happiness and love, if its with Ashley I will be ecstatic. If it is with someone I call a friend now, or a new friend I meet, I am sure I will be ecstatic.

I have a friend that was talking to me last night, what she said made sense, so friend if you are reading this I did take our conversation to heart.

So what am I doing now? well, I am looking for a friend/girlfriend that I can hang out with and hope something develops. I will not wait for Ashley, that would be a massive mistake. So if there are any women out there that want to be friends with a Strong, Kind, Sincere, Cute, Geeky Guy let me know and we will hang out.

Another tidbit of info, this morning my scale read 182lbs, that means I lost 7lbs this week... I havent been sleeping well since Monday, but I have been eating and exercising... thats a little weird...

anyway, sorry if this post makes no sense, Just wanted to get some random thoughts out of my head. Gotta go back to work now.

Its a beautiful day, Im gonna play some golf this weekend.

This post has been a long time coming.

So about 2 months ago I lost everything that mattered to me at the time, for weeks I was depressed, down, and just didn't want to be me.

about 4 weeks ago I committed to a change in my life, after a month of that change I feel so much stronger and better now.

This week I feel good, I am a new me, I look back on my old self and see a pathetic wuss. I don't know how I survived.

A Lot has happened in a short time. A lot of bad, and a little good. I know who I am, I have been missing for a long time.

I am on the search for happiness, sort of. People say good things happen to those who wait. Well there are 2 things I want to happen to me. I want to be happy again, and I want to be in love again. I will wait until the time is right, and I believe that I will find that happiness and love again.

Strength and Perseverance will get me through.

That isn't to say I am unhappy now, I am not unhappy. However there are 2 forms of happiness, fleeting, and long lasting. I have had fleeting happiness in the past few weeks, some great times. However, I am looking for the long lasting kind. I will wait, patiently until that happens.

as a good friend once said "Strength For Today, Hope For Tomorrow" that is a great way to live. I have adopted that mantra as well.

Not much, I still havent quit smoking, and im not buying by the carton any more... so im probably spending a lot more... oh well I really want to quit soon.

I have been playing WoW a little more... well a LOT more.. Im on a 1 week break right now due to getting burnt out a little.. I think it expired yesterday or today... SO I may be on tonight..

Notable Accomplishments in the month I played recently?
Got my hunter from 21-60 (wewt)
Started a tauren DK (hes at 60 right now)
Started a Tauren Druid and got him to 11 (hes an alt to mess around with)
Got my epic mount for my hunter without much effort.

In the new patch in september they are dropping mount level reqs... Im not sure but this makes me uneasy...

I got my ground mount at 30 (yes I know players that got them at 40)
they are lowering to 20
epics at 40
flyers at 60
so it evens out, and the overall cost is lower. I still dont think youll be able to fly in northrend till 77.

Ive been playing red Faction on Xbox, its good, not stellar, but good. Im hoping gamefly will send me my next game sometime in the next few days.

On gamefly... holy crap is their service terrible... WOW... so I have 11 games in my queue, the ones I want are at the top, Ghostbusters, Prototype, and overlord 2. yesterday all 3 were "low" availability, which means they have some but not many, today ghostbusters is "very low" but the other 2 are still low... Okay, how bout you send me one of them? the last game i sent back was received by GF on last wed. so im paying 25ish a month and they arent sending me a game they have in stock? really? what does complaining do? nothing, no credits, no help, no expedition. one of the guys on "gamers with jobs" recommended twittering about their horrid service... I got nothing out of that. tomorrow ill attempt to call agin, and if i cant get some satisfaction ill cancel. I dont want anything for free i dont want to seem entitled, i jus twant a damn game.

and yes im still working for ACS, my "lackey" Brett was sent back to workforce for a good reason (one of the WF guys is leaving and we cant hire any currently) but was given another set of reasons that doesnt make sense. So Yeah its been a while...

whats going on in my life? No big changes

Ashley got a puppy, it lives with us, Milo, hes a Boxer/Lab/Collie mix, cute as can be, seems to get along with P and Y, but we just cant get him to potty outside yet, anyone have suggestions?

I got my new TV, its a 65" Mitsubishi DLP, it is awesome, I never thought that I would notice that big of a difference from my 52" RPCRT tv but holy crap...

what have I been Playing

GTA4, yeah I picked it back up, its lackluster but quite entertaining

HAWX, this is a fun arcade flight battle game... I beat it, playing COOP tonight actually, its worth about 12 hours

Halo Wars, since I like Halo and Love RTSs this was a given, im only a few missions in, but its fun, just dont expect depth going into it.

Now, I have a big complaint... DLC

Why the hell are publishers now bringing out DLC RIGHT AFTER LAUNCH and charging for it?

The Gears download was 10 bucks! and it was a 40k download... tell me those maps werent on the disk I dare you!

Resident Evil 5 dropped last week, without multiplayer... but you can purchase the multiplayer day 1 for 5 bucks... whether its on the disk or not is irrelevant... if they say they couldnt fit it on the 360 disk it would be understandable if it were on the PS3 disk... but its not! what the hell.

Now a DLC pack that comes out a month or 2 after release is understandable as long as it doesnt cost an arm and a leg... a full length episode to a game for 20 bucks, okay thats acceptable, but dont charge me 10 bucks for maps that are already on the freaking disk, or for a mode that should have been free or on the damn disk.

Hey there people who might read my blog...

Thought I would post a small diatribe on whats new in my life...

Everything has been pretty static recently... I turned down a nashville job... too many factors to list but it wouldnt be a good fit for me... so now I have 2 choices... Sit here and wait for something to come along OR put my feelers out and see if there are any nibbles... well Im choosing both...

I have applied for a couple of state postings... but I seriously doubt they will pan out... its not that I am fed up with ACS, I just feel that I am stuck here, no opportunity for advancement in the near future unless I want to move and deal with stuff i dont want to.

I did have a call from a friend in TX about their IT manager leaving.... would I consider it? yeah, for the right money plus relo... sure... Ide like to some day leave kentucky... spread my wings..

Now, you may ask why the state, didnt you get screwed there... yes... by one manager and one managers manager (i cant remember the term) but I dont think I would have that problem again... Ide like to come in as a mid 14 or 15, and advance to 17, but who knows... I doubt they will even consider me... but it sure would be nice to be working in frankfort again... i miss taht a lot.

as the title of this post suggests Ide like to talk about Tea and Games... well Tea first...

Recently I have been getting back into drinking hot tea... its a good drink on a cold day and it is better tasting (to me) than coffee... and it helps me relax before a day at work... I have found it centers me...

I saw on a recent episode of diggnation (great podcast btw) that they endorse some loose leaf teas, to which i didnt know existed... sigh... anyway I ordered a mesh tea infuser and some tea... which is amazingly good tasting... it opened my senses... now i have to find some way to have that kind of tea at work... problem being getting the leaves out of the infuser without sending them down the sink at work... they make electric tea machines that steep it and all that, but the way i figure there will still be the problem of getting the tea out of the infuser... i actually emailed them asking... but i doubt ill even get a response. right now im sticking to bagged earl grey at work... itll do for now... i hate plain black tea... i love earl grey and the 2 that i ordered (congo lychee and vanilla cream) both from china.

on to games...

Ive been listening to a lot of podcasts recently and took off the week after christmas and dove head first back into games. Why did I stop playing games so much? I dont know, possibly life got in the way, or possibly nothing i wanted to play... before my break I finished Gears 2, and Left4 dead. over the break I finished Fable 2 (well there is a DLC expansion out yesterday so now im not finished... but the point remains) and dove into fallout 3, well somehow even doing some side quests I managed to finish the main story at 18 hours... now will i continue to play? yes, but I have to motivate myself now... I started Mercs 2 before the break was over and finished it last weekend with the help of my friend matt. I missed gaming and now im back in the thick of it.

I would love to put together a podcast with some friends similar to gamers with jobs... but we will see if that pans out...

I turned it down, so I just pulled a Wil Riker move... I honestly want my shot at the Enterprise... thats all there is to it... however since he just opened another site... If the captains chair was open there Ide probably take it... it could be the Enterprise E to my Boss's Enterprise D... I dont know yet.

Okay so everything has worked out so far that I can go to London on thanksgiving... no sweat..

Now Christmas... wow... so I emailed dad yesterday to tell him that the only weekends i would be available to go to london for christmas were 12-14 and 19-21... no big deal, last year we went on the 15th or something... now, they are on vacation during both of those weeks... I have plane tickets booked for the 26th, non refundable of course... and we cant go on the 25th because cracker barrel (jesus can we not go somewhere else just once since my grandmother is in an assisted living weve gon there every thankgsgiving and christmas) is closed. Now, dad emails me back and tells me to cancel my plans for the 26th and to leave the following monday... i didnt tell him the tickets were non refundable... we are gonna have to go during the week or im gonna get screwed out of about 400 bucks... damn... why does this crap have to happen to me... i tell them about plans a full month off and I get screwed.

I love my family and all, but why do i have to compromise and lose money, when we could just go during the damn week.

Hope everyone is doing okay... I have had a moment of clarity recently and feel better... well except for feeling like crap today...

why do I feel like crap today?

well we have a second call center for Apple's iPhone that we run/support... well when ACS signed the contract with apple they promised we would have the call center up within 30 days... well Igor and I busted our butts to get it going in a temporary place... we had to move it to the production floor... Igor thought it would take from 6pm to about midnight... well at 11:30 we had most of the PCs moved up to the floor, and 1 server.. it was a bitch... so... what time did we finish? about 7am... we went to breakfast... and now im sitting at home trying not to fall asleep.

Anyhow.. all is well on other fronts, im going to London on Thanksgiving.

So, many of you know Ashley and I have been having troubles..

well I feel as though it is just about done...

I really miss my house right now, just living right there out in the country, its so relaxing and peaceful..

I told ashley this and that set her off..

then sunday i did all the laundry that was dirty... The basket was downstairs with folded clothes on top so naturally i assumed that they were clean and that they were all folded... so as i got the 4 loads out of the dryer i proceeded to fold them and put them on top... apparently this wasa mistake... so ash gets home and it wasnt thanks for doing all the laundry... it was... oh you didnt fold all the clothes? i mean damn i did laundry for like 6 hours while watching the games and i get harped on like that...for no damned reason...

yesterday was a complete fight... im just about done... really and totally... ill give it the week since this weekend is her birthday... but im pretty much done.

On the upside I have met a friend that I can safely say is the best friend I have ever met... i wont mention names, but i am very happy...

and no Im not cheating on ashley or leaving her for another woman... I dont do that.

I have more friends, and im making more every day.

WE did get approved and ordered our CapEx

So we got 150 machines from Dallas (that are crap) we deployed 40 someodd today and I deployed 22 saturday, and 32 previously... so we are about halfway there... woot...

We also got 169 new PCs from dell... we havent deployed any yet, but they are ready... finish up the agent machines, take care of the licensed agents (Agents with Office), then the supervisors with gateways, I think Sylvia will be first, shes my work BFF.

What else?

House still hasnt sold...

Going to the movies with Jordan, Mark, and Brady this sat... havent seen them in a looong time

Yes I know I havent posted in a looooong time, but I have thought about it.... sorry..

Anyway, whats new...

My dizzy thing was an inner ear infection... the dizziness went away a couple of weeks ago.

I am still smoking, but the weird thing is Im not chemicly dependant on it... I had 1 yesterday... i just enjoy the buzz i suppose... that and all the cool kids are doing it.

The house still hasnt sold... sigh http://www.vltek.com/house.html i really wish it would sell soon so that i can move to lex.

Work is going pretty good, they still havent opened a req. for our new person... frankly i doubt it's going to happen... Igor and I have handled it so far... but its killing us slowly. Now some of my friends are going to be moving up and moving on... Sigh

Help Me Please

Hi everyone...

Had an interesting few weeks...

Anyway, this last weekend I went out of town with ashley, went to kings island.

I need some help.

When i ride roller coasters or anyhting jerky I get kindof dizzy and cant focus on anything... its like im concussed... i get a little nautios but have never thrown up and can even eat. Is this motion sickness? Ive tried dramamine, and all that does is knock me out (even the non drowsy kind)

But here is the interesting part... yesterday im sitting at home, I went out to the garage and had like my 3rd cigarette of the day and suddenly BAM that feeling hit me again... this was at like 3pm. I barely made it into the house before i collapsed for about 30 minutes... waht the hell caused that?

Today, just a few minutes ago Im sitting in my office chair and BAM here is that feeling again. Last night it lasted till after 10pm.

Last night food seemed to help a little... but it didnt at kings island...

I should note that the feeling i get at kings island has happened every time ive ever been there... but it just randomly hitting me started yesterday...

Help?!?!?!?!

Divorce

So tonight is the night I sign the divorce settlement...

It hurts... but life moves on.

Whats left? Im not sure but according to the Ex Wife the divorce should be final next week... sigh, thats some time i wont get back that I really hate to lose. Im 26 and ill be unmarried... I realize friends of mine (patrick) just got married at 28 but even if I were to marry Ashley it will have to wait at least 2 years... so ill be 29 (yes i can do math) before actually getting married IF it works out. Im not sure if it will or not.. but Im at least happy with the relationship, and after a strange talk last night she is too.

I dont have a lot to say... still no tax stimulus check... which is odd...

I started expensing my phone and internet so thats cool... 173.95 a month extra, that brings my salary above 40, so yay.

Im pretty tired today... cant wait to get to the house tonight and crash totally.

So, on the way home yesterday a wonderful thing happened... my check engine light came on...

went to O'reilly auto parts and they scanned the code for free (Kudos to shops that do this service now, when my Mazda's check engine light came on it was 107.00 for them to read the code, and 12.00 to fix the problem) and told me its a misfiring cylinder... yay... not dangerous as i understand it. So I called mace at goodyear (Good guy, dont mind giving him my car work) and its going in sat morning to get fixed, mos tlikely its wires or plugs, and since I didnt replace the plugs or wires when i got it (it had 58,000 miles) and its now at 86,500 its probably the plugs or wires, it may never have been done. Sadly 350 was his estimate... say bye bye tax stimulus... i wanted to use that to pay off beneficial... oh well... another few months of payments to them.

In other news, Ashley passed her MIT test yesterday and is now officially the Associate Manager of cici's in Nicholasville. If you go there and eat if shes there say hi, who knows she may throw in a free drink if you mention my name.

So... the weekend went sortof as planned...

oil changes saturday morning, we went to eat while they were being done (btw goodyear has increased their basic price 3 dollars due to new brand of oil). Then I headed back to the house to mow, as it was supposed to rain Sunday and Ashley didnt need me to go to big lots and with her to get her 2 nails fixed.

before I mowed I looked up the price on the wheel cylinder to replace the leaky one on Ashley's car... well it turned out to be 10 bucks. Goodyear wanted 200+ to replace it... so I looked up a generic proceedure... okay I can do this... so I go mow, Ashley gets the part and brings it to my house. I pull her tire off, then the dust cover off the brakes, and disconnect the old cylinder, then I take the screws out of the old one. meanwhile there is brake fluid leaking out of the line since it was connected to.... well, air... now came the interesting part... the old part was not wanting to come out... it was a tight fit in there.... hmmm... it eventually came down to me taking the bleeder valve out of the back and presto out it came... so I took the bleeder valve off the new one... attached it to the car... attached the bleeder valve and line and couldnt get the brake shoes back on.... well that was because that cylinder had enough pressure in it that the brakes couldnt retract... so out comes the bleeder valve again... I attach the brakes, put the cover back on... install the bleeder valve... and presto, working brakes... a few trips around the block later, and no sign of leak.... yay.

next i took a shower and cut my hair, not in that order, then we sat out back enjoying the sun and each others company, talking about absolutely nothing but having a good time doing it. I suppose I should mention that ive picked up that filthy habit again... yup, im smoking again... but im going to try to keep it reasonable... 3 sat, 4 sunday, none so far today.

anyway we grilled some dinner, and retired to do other stuff... it was a good day... save for both of us getting sunburnt.... hey morons... sunscreen

Anyway... sunday went pretty much as expected... I got up early... finished my laundry, watched tv, went to my parents, came back and watched tv, got about an hour of GTA time, watched tv, went to bed, talked to ashley, slept. There was a eureka marathon yesterday so that was enjoyable.

The only revision to the plans for this week (that i can remember) is that Supposedly ill be signing the lease on the apt tomorrow.... thats about it. Ashley wants to spend the night there tomorrow, but I cant so thats a little bit of a bummer... im hoping she decides against it... but I will survive either way.

now my quandry...

Jordan may not be able to go to the server 2008 launch thing next thursday (May22), Bryan is staying at my house on the 21st and heading there that thurs... im debating on cancelling my trip there and asking Igor or PTO that friday (the 23rd).. quite frankly ide rather spend the day with ashley. so we will see.... but if Jordan can go I will go.

So I finally picked up GTA4 yesterday

Got home and played it... WOW

Ive played all the previous installments so I kinda knew what I was walking into, this thing is massive.

I suppose its fitting that so far this is the best GTA yet, seeing as how The Borg Have Assimilated Take 2. And by The Borg, im referring to EA.

I have only played about 3 hours (seemed like minutes) and Ive completed a couple of the arms dealer missions, a Vlad mission and several Roman Missions. MY GF is a Hobag (in game GF)

I tried to venture in to the airport to steal a chopper but I didnt see any, go figure... and as soon as i crossed onto the runway BLAM 4 star wanted level... I got out of it, which is awesome cause it was an achievement, but when i tried to leave the airport i got it back and was blown up by the cops, so I took that as a Sign to go to bed.

my impressions so far are... well WOW, i am impressed.

Its just sad that the Borg of Video Game companies has acted on Take 2, they shoved their tubules into the company, injected the nano probes, and walked away.

I think thats all i have to say today.... at least for now

Anyway, todays random thought, why would speedway raise the price of gas to 3.65 only to have thortons across the street lower it to 3.49?

So, today at work is kind of odd.. Igor is out at some motivational thing that is probably boring him to death (this is the big thing in Rupp Arena today), he called once this morning to check in, but not since then. nothing big going on, Im updating the SMS dell image... for those of you who just went WTH? SMS is a management software to manage the PCs here... the Image is a blank Operating System (windows) install so that we dont have to do all kinds of crap each time we re-format a pc. so I am updating the one we have adding updates (windows updates) and programs and such... this way when we roll it out the machiens dont have to do more work to get updated.

other than that Im workign tickets as they come in... such a slow day

So I created this new blog to relate what is me to anyone that cares to read, in all honesty i dont expect a lot of people to read, but between friends and possibly my girlfriend maybe someone will walk away with some tidbit of knowledge about what makes me, well, me.

Anyway, to catch everyone up on whats going on in my life currently.

1. Divorce, supposedly the lawyers have come to an agreement so that should be over soon

2. Selling the House, its currently FSBO, honestly I cant afford a Realtor so if you are looking for a house (especially one thats already wired for Ethernet and Satellite) visit http://www.vltek.com/house.html

3. Vehicle change, I really dont want to part with my blazer, its been a good vehicle but its costing me waaaay too much on gas, like over 500 a month on gas alone... ouch. my goal is to find something in the 30mpg range or better. Im not a huge fan of small economy cars (prefer something a litlle heavier or sportier) my price range is 10K (gotta pay off the truck with trade in if possible) so im thinking... Impala, Mustang, Celica, Scion TC, Honda Accord Coupe, etc... if i can find one thats around 50K miles or less and around 10K ill be happy... and Ide prefer a manual this time, every other vehicle i get seems to alternate between the 2.

4. Insomnia, this one I added to the list recently, Saturday night I had trouble staying asleep due to a nightmare, then a great dream that still woke me up (and no it wasnt sex related). Sunday night i went to bed early, was dead from the legends game, so i got about 20 mins of sleep, then I got to talk to Ashley, and after getting off the phone I just wasnt tired any more, so I got up and browsed some of the websites i visit, then i settled to the couch to watch late night tv, I mustave fallen asleep for about an hour in there cause i remember a dream i had.

5. Work, Originally I was annoyed with ACS and wanted to leave here, then I reflected back, why was I annoyed? well the only reason I could come up with was the 40 minute trip each way each day, well if Im gonna sell the house (because frankly it depresses me to live there, and I sleep alone way too much, which i also hate) then I can move to lex sometime (god knows how long itll take) but once im in lex i wont be away from home for 11 hours a day, more like 9 and a half, or less if im close or go home on lunches.
